Andry Nalin
(Superfly Records) | Bio Can you remember your last summer? You
will never forget this beach and the beautiful outlook towards the horizon. Spending
numerous hours at the seashore without doing anything than just feeling fine. And if you
talk about music this one and only track of the past summer has to be mentioned. The
MUZIK-Magazine called it "universally appealing" and MIXMAG-Magazine came to the
conclusion, that "german house has neversounded so sophisticated and sensual"! |
|
Not
just the name itself reminded everybody of vacation and sunshine, but with its floating
sounds & deep grooves "Beachball" made the summer of 1997 an remarkable
event. So while you are looking at your holiday-snapshots you start thinking about the
people behind such an everlasting anthem. Now at the latest two name has to be mentioned:
"Andry Nalin" and "Harry Cane" Let/s rewind the story. Andry was born at the 14th of May in the beginning of the seventies in Dusseldorf/Germany. Knowing nothing about his future shoesize 9 or his famous success as a DJ. After living in a smaller village called Mettmann he returned to the city in 1991. Still known for their leading electronic pioneers Kraftwerk the local scene discovered the early beginnings of techno music. At that time Andry started working in the record-store and was also infected by thes new music like trance and acidhouse. Being a DJ was a logical progression and first experience was catched at clubs like FACE, NOH-Club or the legendary CHECKER'S. His resedency for the sunday-morning sessions at Dusseldorf's most popular club: RATINGER HOF lasted nearly two years and clubbers from all around germany came just for this grand finale of the weekend to listen to Andry's hypnotic sound. |
During this time he met Ralf
Beck in 1993, who just returned from the Columbia-University/USA. They both were in
fullaccord with their thinking about dancemusic and a few month later their first project
was born: Nalin I.N.C. If you listen to their very first release "Apalusa" you
already have a clue about the gifted combination of both preferenced & talents. Andry
himself has this analysis: "Personally I like to do work with grooves and I love to
do the arrangement, but Harry Cane is the best man on earth to give our tracks a
fundamental musical base. At the end my clubexperience is very important for the final
mix, after years of djing you know how to surpirse the crowd.
Without resting on their first lorels they prooved their hit-abilitys with the track "Planet Orange" at the end of 1994 on the so far unknown label Shampoo-Records. Years later the B-side of this record would open up new chances for them.
In 1995 both founded their own
label called Superfly Records and changed their projektname to Nalin & Kane. Their
creative development was reaching another level, best documented with their 10.005 called:
"Beachball". This track smashed all the european charts in 1997 and 1998, in
Germany they sold over 200.000 copies.

The follow-up
Talkin'About had a masive clubresonance in 1997/98. During Andry's gigs for the legendary Rave &
Cruise Parties on a cruiseship he met poeple from Cosmorecords/Munich. They took that
chance to ask him for re-release that Planet Orange/ Planet Violet- clubhit from 1994 and
remixing their artist Da Hool. The Nalin & Kane Remix of "Meet Her At The
Loveparade" hat again a huge chart success all over the world and showed very clearly
that they had developed a truly individual soundblueprint with their work. That is why
they chosen to remix classic tracks like "Capricorn: 20hz" "Mam &
Spoon: Stella", because Nalin & Kane are still can advance these tracks into a
new fresh direction. Andry himself likes the remixworks of B.T., Sasha & John Digweed. Besides his many national gigs at venues like Mach 1, Dorian Gray, KW, Loveparade, Mayday (....and many more), Andry Nalin used his creative break during the summers on the one and only party-island Ibiza for regular Djing in clubs like Space, Pacha or El Divino. Over a few years now he is travelling all over Europe, working for the famous Renaissance in England, spinning in Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Fance, Hungaria and and and... |
In Germany he is back at the Ratinger Hof on
sundays to give the legend a new chapter, every few weeks he is playing at the Tribehouse. At the moment Andry spends a lot of time in the studio to finnish his first album, release will be early 2000. |
It was 1993. A young DJ named
Andry Nalin was attending a small private party where he met a certain Ralf Beck (later to
be known as "Harry Cane"), who was just gaining his first really interesting
experience as a producer of electronic music. A few weeks earlier he had been hired to
co-produce a new album with the band "Elektric Music", which had been founded by
former members of Kraftwerk.
These two very diverse characters quickly established that they were not only
on very similar wavelengths, but that they also shared the same great love of music. A few
weeks later they met "to produce something together" for the first time. This
resulted in such works as "Nalin INC: Planet Violet" or "Call U".
These titles were released on the underground "Shampoo" label.
Following their first critical successes in the German dance scene, they
decided to form their own label in 1995, so that they could be more independent and
compose more freely. "Superfly Records" was born. Actually, the two intended to
just release their titles on vinyl and introduce progressive dance music in the clubs. But
their success caught up with them.
The label's fifth release
(Nalin & Kane Vol. 3) contained a track entitled "Beachball". Within a few
months this underground vinyl release developed into the summer hit of 1997.
"Beachball" catapulted to No. 1 in the German dance charts and
stayed there for 10 weeks! This resulted in Top 10 chartings in the German sales charts,
as well as placement in charts throughout Europe. Now, everything that Nalin & Kane
touched turned into a hit, such as the legendary remix of Da Hool's "Meet Her At The
Loveparade".
Over the last few years Nalin & Kane have become the most in-demand
production team on the European dance scene. Their remixes for Jam & Spoon, Kylie
Minogue or Energy 52 have earned cult status. And now everyone is anxiously anticipating
the release of their new, long-awaited album, which will be released by "Urban"
this autumn.
Besides their DJing and production work, the two continued to expand their
"Superfly" label, developing an incredible feeling for future sounds and styles.
In the following year such acts as "Phil Fuldner (title: The Final; top 10 in the
Media Control charts) or "Dial M For Mogui" (title: Beatbox; Media Control Top
30) released their debut singles on Superfly and also achieved the crossover from being
"cool underground tracks" to becoming first club and then chart hits.
Today, Superfly stands for innovation and progress within the dance scene,
and is appreciated by the recording industry as a gold mine of talented artists and as a
reliable club trend barometer. For Andry Nalin and Harry Cane the future of their label is
to remain Europe's most "in" DJ label.
