SISTER BLISS |
• biography • |
Since she first stepped out on the dancefloor in the heady days of acid house in 1987, Sister Bliss has played an important role in the evolution of global dance culture. She began her career as one of the few female DJ's in Britain, honing her skills and paying her dues in the capital's burgeoning club scene. Over the last 15 years from DJ gigs to sell-out stadium shows with her band Faithless, she has recognised the need to take chances and innovate:a combination of energy, dedication and passion for music has led to Bliss being crowned the undisputed queen of UK Dance. After DJing in London in the early 90's she quickly earnt herself guest spots in some of the UK's best clubs- Cream, Colours, Gatecrasher, Golden, Renaissance, Ministry of Sound and Trade to name but a few. International dates soon followed and by the time she met fellow producer Rollo in 1992 her solo career was heading skywards. The talented duo became a celebrated production team responsible for many a club anthem ( one of the first projects being the highly successful 'Rollo Goes....' series), including chart-topping remixes of Donna Summer's 'I feel love' and Simply Red's 'Fairground' amongst others.'Cantgetamancantgetajob (Life's a Bitch)' was the first hit to be released under her own name, leading to mainstream recognition in a fortaste of what was to come... |

The following year the creative energy continued to flow. Delving deep into her record box Bliss developed a deeper, more spiritual sound, something she still maintains today. Combining her DJ and musical ability with Rollo's production techniques and Buddhist rapper Maxi Jazz's conscious lyrics, they formed Faithless ( also including Jamie Catto (now of 1Giant Leap) and Dido ( now global superstar))- a band that revolutionised dance music and went on to sell over 5 million singles and 2million albums worldwide. | |
The first single 'Salva Mea' from eclectic debut album Reverence made a modest showing in the UK top30, however word started to spread and a year later upon re- release it flew into the top 10. Faithless notched up 3 further top10 singles including the seminal all-time club favourite 'Insomnia'. The album went top5 in15 countries and certified gold in 22.
They toured extensively with an 8 piece live band- from Europe to the US and all places inbetween before reappearing 2 years later with the second album 'Sunday 8pm'( spawning global hits 'God is a DJ', 'Take the Long Way Home' and 'Bring My Family Back'), which was nominated for the Mercury Music prize, the Brits and won SAS awards Best Band accolade. Throughout this hectic touring schedule Sister Bliss continued to pursue her solo career as a recording artist and DJ. She continued her residency at the Gallery, at Turnmills, London, toured the US, Asia, Austalia and South Africa and released the Paul Oakenfold favourite 'Sister Sister', and 'Deliver Me' ( a cover of the Beloved's Balearic classic featuring folk legend John Martyn on vocals) which both achieved radio and chart success. She also mixed the Ministry of Sound's 'Headliners' compilation following the success of Faithless' 'Back to Mine' post- club compilation. |

2001 saw the release of third Faithless album 'Outrospective' spawning massive hit singles 'We Come 1', Tarantula ( used as the BBC World Cup theme this year) and 1 Step too Far ( featuring Dido). The last 18 months was claimed by the Faithless touring machine. An extensive sell-out world tour including dates in South Africa, Australasia and Europe was follwed by headline slots at all the major European festivals ( including Glastonbury, Creamfields,Bizzare and Werchter). Despite this exhausting schedule Bliss kept her ear to the floor through her Gallery residency, Ibiza gigs at the likes of Pacha and Manumission, Dance Valley in Holland, MTV events in Romania and other select UK and European dates. She also slipped back into the studio with Faithless and Dido to record a cover of 'Dub Be Good to Me' for the One Love album in aid of charity Warchild. Most recently she has toured South America with massively successful dates in Brazil ( with Ministry of Sound) and Creamfields Argentina. Next up are dates in Ireland, Amsterdam and London, with a final UK 2002 appearance at the Gallery's Christmas party. Touring continues into the New Year with a month in Australia where Bliss will be playing at some of the continent's biggest outdoor dance events. |
