DANIELE DAVOLI

• biography •

The name Daniele Davoli will, no doubt, be familiar to you. Maybe you cannot place it, but you will definitely have heard his music. Daniele was one of the pioneers of the Italian House sound and had major success with Black Box, who were responsible for one of the biggest dance tracks of all time – Ride On Time. At one point Daniele had three tracks under three separate guises in the UK Top 10 in the same week with Black Box, Starlight ("Numero Uno") and Mixmaster ("Grand Piano")! No mean feat I’m sure you’ll agree.

Born in northern Italy, Daniele started DJing at the infamous club Starlight in his hometown of Bologna. He first came to the UK on the back of the success of Black Box, who sold over five million records world-wide, and was soon honoured by being chosen as resident of the legendary, ground breaking club the Hacienda where he began wearing his trademark hats.

He went on to become one of the biggest and most popular names on the UK club scene playing everywhere from Renaissance, Cream and Hard Times in the North, and then Love Ranch, Club UK and the Honey Club in the South.

In 1997 Daniele took time off from the music scene due to exhaustion, returning only to Ibiza where he has become one of the veterans of the island playing every summer at all the main clubs from Manumission and Pacha to Amnesia, Eden, Space and Es Paradis.

Two years later Daniele returned to the studio experimenting with sounds and moving away from the Italian House sound that he made his name with. Drawing inspiration from contemporaries such as Paul Oakenfold and Timo Mass, 2001 saw the launch of Daniele’s new imprint, Propane. Experimental, progressive, techno, house, trance - whatever you call it, this is the sound of now.

Starting off with a bang, the first release, Transgenic Tools Volume 1 got single of the month in Ministry and was signed by Inferno. The second release, a collaboration between himself, Darren Stokes and Tall Paul, really put Propane on the map – going under the artist title Tall Tin Box it was snapped up by Perfecto after a frantic bidding war. This tied in nicely with Daniele’s summer residency for Perfecto at Pacha in Ibiza alongside global dates with Paul Oakenfold including the massive Gorky Park festival in Moscow.

Daniele has also wrote and produced one of the summer tunes of Ibiza 2001 with Summer Song under his Nilo guise, featuring Orlando Johnson on vocals the tune was chosen by Roger Sanchez as his record of the summer.

2002 continued to be equally as big with Daniele playing at Madonnas “Maverick” label party in Miami – rated as one of the best parties at this years WMC in March. Daniele is also the resident tour DJ on the Paul Oakenfold live tour in September through to November 2002 supporting his new album “Bunkka” taking in dates in Italy, Ireland, France, Greece, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Thailand and Brazil. The 2003 dates on this tour start in March taking in the rest of South America then back to Miami for the Winter Music Conference. He has even more worldwide travelling next year as one of the resident DJs on the Pacha Futura World Tour.

Propane continues with it’s output of quality tunes - Daniele and the Flickman team have produced a brilliant new record, “Sacrum”, utilising music from the Kubrick film “Eyes Wide Shut” – just signed to Positiva. Currently busy in the studio remixing Simple Minds and also producing a new track with Jan Johnson.

One of the most stylish DJs on the circuit, his other passions, besides playing and producing records are cooking, fast cars and supermodels.

Your average Italian? Well if average means selling millions of records, DJing across the globe and being a regular feature in lifestyle and music magazines then yes !!
