OLIVER KLEIN |
• biography • |
Oliver Klein was born in Dortmund in 1970. He was instantly drawn to music at a very early age and it came as no surprise that
Oliver began his career as a DJ at the tender age of 13. By the age of 16 he had made the transition from DJ’ing for pleasure to DJ’ing as a profession, as he began playing in night clubs in and around Dortmund. |
|
Originally starting by playing Soul, Funk, Rap & Dance Music. He quickly began getting a name for himself on the local scene. By 1993
Oliver’s style had morphed and he was now pushing the sounds of Progressive House & Techno, one year later he landed a very prestigious residency at the legendary
Poison Club in Dusseldorf. In 1995, Olli took the next logical step and turned his hand to production. His first successful project was ‘Exis of Earth’, which catapulted him far beyond his normal boundaries. Over the next few years with his sound slowly becoming more refined, productions like ‘Steps of the Righteous Man’, ‘Effects’, ‘House of House’ and numerous remixes, slowly saw Oliver carve a niche for himself amongst the blossoming German dance scene. With his tracks ‘No Space’ & ‘House of House’ topping the German dance charts, it was not long until Oliver was DJ’ing pan-Europe and working the large German raves such as Mayday & Love Parade. He was also getting regular appearances on German Radio and TV; in short he was massive in his native country. Fast forward to 2000, the Oliver Klein production ‘Rheinkraft’ was picked up on import, by Maelstrom Records and suitably remixed for the UK market. It was released in March of 2001 to much acclaim, as it perfectly suited the ‘Wet ‘n Hard’ sound that had been apparently championed by Timo Maas. |
|
In April of 2001 Oliver made his UK DJ debut at Coalville's legendary night ‘Passion’, again to much acclaim. This has led to 12 hectic months of further gig’s including being chosen by the Liverpudlian superclub ‘Cream’ for their 2001 opening party at Amnesia, Ibiza as well as Scotland’s ‘Room at the Top’ and the ‘Gallery’ at London’s Turnmill’s. |
October of 2001 saw the release of Olli’s second Maelstrom single
‘Timeloop’, which with it’s massive reverb guitar melody, had DJ’s and crowds going nuts for the Oliver Klein sound with massive UK specialist radio support from Seb Fontaine, Graham Gold, Pete Tong, Colin Tevendale, Tim Lennox & Mark Sherry to name a few and from further afield, from the likes of club DJ’s Saeed & Palash, Timo Maas & Hernnan Cattaneo…
In between this Oliver embarked on a string of high profile remixes giving the Oliver Klein touch to the likes of
Tomba Vira, Azzido Da Bass, Harry Choo Choo Romero, James Holden, Mauro Picotto, Fragma and DJ Tiësto.
2002 has so far seen Olli undertake a heavy international DJ schedule playing from Liverpool to Melbourne and New York to New Delhi… He’s also been busy building his side project Jigsaw with World Clique frontman Baggy and have already remixed the club classic SIA ‘Drink To Get Drunk’ and released the Jigsaw single ‘Teardrop’ on Timo Mass’ new label 4Twenty. And just to make sure he’s got no life at all Oliver has launched a new remix team with Baggy under the name of ‘Panic In The Streets’ with their first remixes under their belt – Trancesetters ‘The Saga’ and Loco ‘8010’… |
|
Oliver has also just finished his new single the forward thinking ‘Shakedown’ that sees him getting to work on a full vocal track. ‘Shakedown’ is a blend of tough and funky driving progressive tech house blended with the bluesy vocals and mashed up electric guitar work of Tom Hingley (ex-Inspiral Carpet!) Set for release in September this should put Oliver on the map as one of the most innovative producers in Europe. |
Advanced plans are in the pipeline for Oliver to mix the first in a new series of DJ lead mix albums on Maelstrom under the “Future Sound Of…” brand, the first being “Future Sound Of… Oliver Klein” for release in late September. oliver
has been a requested and well travelled dj in the past two years, several tours through

He´s one of the few who manages to reach different scenes of electronic dance music with his crossover appeal and also to deliver pure clubmusic which can later on find its way into charts. supporters of the klein-vibe in the past were carl cox, pete tong, steve lawler, paul oakenfold, tiesto, deep dish, timo maas, seb fontaine – just to name those at the very top, and it´s for sure that the outstanding and snake charming “cobra libre” as well as the tech house monster “toolbar” will do it again for oliver and will take him another step forward! |
